You have a right to confront the witnesses who testify against you. You have a right to attack the evidence used against you. You have the right to tell your story and have your lawyer cross examine prosecution witnesses. You have the right to present witnesses in your defense. If you don’t have a lawyer who understands these rights you are at a huge disadvantage. Allowing a public defender to handle your trial can be a mistake, not because they don’t know what they are doing, but because they have such a large caseload that they may not be able to put enough time into your defense. You can discuss your options, for free, with an attorney who does have time for you. Don’t put it off. What could be more important than your liberty?
